An Elegant Philadelphia Wedding at the College of Physicians
Michelle and Ryan’s classic, elegant, black tie wedding at the College of Physicians in Philadelphia was truly a dream from start to finish. June in Philly just hits different, and we lucked out with the kind of perfect weather you can’t plan for.
Let me take a moment to talk about The College of Physicians, because this venue is incredible for weddings and we absolutely love shooting there. You can learn a bit more about it’s history here, but what we love about it so much is the incredible architecture, the crisp, clean marble of the rotunda, the deep wood tones in the indoor ceremony and reception spaces and the Renaissance style portraits and sculptures. The deep jewel tones and rich wood accents make the flowers and decor truly pop. They have plenty of room for larger weddings and packed dance floors, and the tall ceilings and warm lighting makes weddings feel cozy but not cramped. There is such a rich history throughout the entire building that sets the stage for an elegant city wedding. The Mutter Museum on the lower level is so unique and quite an experience for your guests, if they are interested and willing! Check out more about the Mutter Museum here. The outdoor ceremony space is an absolutely beautiful garden with tons of plants and flowers that will brighten up your ceremony without needing to bring too much outside decor. The garden lets in plenty of sunlight and is a perfect place for guests to wander when they need a bit of fresh air throughtout the evening.
We started off Michelle and Ryan’s wedding day with some super relaxed getting ready moments at the Westin and Sonesta. These are our favorite getting ready vibes, relaxed and excited, anticipation for the big day ahead. Michelle, her bridesmaids and bridesman sipped on champagne, laughed and enjoyed these quieter moments before the wedding day chaos began. Ryan and his groomsmen had similar vibes, getting ready early, hanging out, laughing and just genuinely enjoying each others company. Ryan and his mom took the time to practice their mother/son dance (these are the moments we just love capturing!)
We made our way to the Azalea garden in the art museum area for first look and portraits (in the same spot where they got engaged!) Ryan and Michelle soaked up some snuggle time with their pup, Juniper (please bring your dog to your portraits, we LOVE them!) Then we made our way via trolley, to their garden ceremony at the College of Physicians which was sunny, warm and full of love. Michelle looked absolutely stunning in her deep v textured wedding gown.
Their guests mingled through the venue and gardens for cocktail hour and then made their way upstairs to the beautifully decorated reception space. Their light, neutral florals popped against the dark tones of the room and the entire space was gorgeous and elegant. After we documented their beautifully choreographed first dance, heartfelt toasts and mingling guests, we celebrated with them while capturing their packed dance floor.
Going back through these photos feels like stepping right back into such a fun and amazing day. Scroll through to see some of our favorite moments!
