A Year in Review: 2023

2023 marked a year of artistic growth for us. We found new inspiration everywhere, re-invigorated our love of film, and brought back our super8 video films. Throughout the year Matt and I talked a lot about creativity, originality, the art of film, and the beauty in the imperfect. Every time we shared new images and talked about newly discovered artists together, we felt a renewed excitement for our own work and for what we can deliver to our clients.

Bringing back our use of film in our shooting has been a long time coming. While we slowly stopped shooting film for work, we never truly stopped during our personal lives. It has always brought us so much joy and when we realized it had been so many years since we brought out our film cameras for weddings and portraits, there was no question that it was time to expand our love of film to share with our couples. There is something so nostalgic and tactile when looking at film (even when it is digitally scanned) that cannot be replicated with digital cameras or presets. The imperfections in some of our older cameras make each roll we develop so unique and special. We cannot wait to spend more time with our film cameras in 2024.

Diving back into the analog has reminded us of the beauty in imperfection and re-inspired our love of imperfect moments. We have always prioritized capturing candid moments when we shoot, but our hope for 2024 is to dive a little deeper into this. We want to truly feel the raw moments when we look at our images. We want to find and thoughtfully capture the beauty in the ordinary moments that will take your breath away. So much of life is filled with many ordinary moments leading up to the grand moments. We see the beauty in these ordinary, in between moments and are committing to documenting these in the same way we document the grand moments, because there is such beauty in it all. We began to explore this mindset in 2023, and we are really looking forward to continue this path in 2024.

We compiled a handful of our favorites from all of our incredible weddings in 2023. We really only just scraped the surface of all the images that I love from last year so I am really looking forward to posting more weddings in depth over the next year or so. Until then, here is a snapshot of our 2023.

Images are a mix of digital and film.
